Village Social ("Village Social," "we," "us") runs the Village Social mobile app and the website at www.villagesocial.me (together, the "Service"). The Service helps verified residents of The Villages, Florida area find happy hours, clubs, events, friends, and, if they choose, dates. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions: support@villagesocial.me.

1. Information you give us

  • Phone number. Required to create an account and sign in with a text-message code. One account per phone number.
  • Profile details. First name, last initial, birth date, the village you live in (you can hide it), hometown city and state, an "about me" section, interests, and which modes you turn on (friends, activity partners, dating). We show your age, never your birth date. We never ask for your street address.
  • Dating details, only if you turn dating on: your gender, who you are interested in, what you are looking for, an age range, optional distance, and up to three written prompt answers.
  • Photos. Up to six profile photos, plus any photos you post in chats, club photo walls, or listings.
  • Messages and posts. Chats with matches and clubs, meetup invitations, clubs and events you create, RSVPs, "Going" taps, favorites, reports, and blocks.
  • Away dates you set when you are out of town, so we can pause dating while you are away.

2. Information collected to verify residents

  • Location readings, only when you tap to verify. To confirm you live in the area, the app sends two location readings, at least ten minutes apart, when you ask it to. Once a year, when you open the app and have already allowed location access, it sends one reading to renew your verification. We store each reading (latitude, longitude, accuracy, the time, and whether your phone reported a simulated location) and whether it was inside our service area. We do not track your location in the background.
  • Live selfie check and face data. With your consent, a short live selfie check confirms you are a real person present at the camera. We keep one still reference image of your face from that check (never the video). We compare each profile photo you add with that reference to confirm the photos are really you. Details are in our Selfie and Face Data Notice.

3. Information from Google or Apple sign-in

After your account exists with a phone number, you can add Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple as another way to sign in. If you do, we receive your name, email address, and (from Google) profile picture, plus an account identifier from that provider. We use this information only to sign you in and to link that sign-in method to your existing account. We do not use it to show you ads, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers that host our sign-in system. We do not read your Google contacts, email, calendar, or files. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. You can remove Google or Apple sign-in at any time in the app under Me, Sign-in options.

4. Information collected automatically

  • Basic technical data needed to run the Service: device type, operating system, app version, and IP address in server logs.
  • A push notification token, if you allow notifications.
  • Crash and error reports, which help us fix problems.
  • If sponsored cards are turned on, we record when a sponsored card is shown or tapped, and by which account, to count views.

We do not use third-party advertising or tracking tools, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

5. How we use information

  • To create and secure your account and confirm you are a real, local resident who meets the minimum age.
  • To show your profile to other verified members, suggest people, clubs, events, and happy hours, and run chats and matches.
  • To keep members safe. We check messages for common scam patterns (for example, requests for gift cards or wire transfers). This includes sending the text of recent messages in a conversation to an AI service that scores scam risk. If a message is flagged, it is still delivered, but the receiver sees a safety warning, and our team may review it. We check every uploaded photo for nudity. We review reports and may warn, hide content, suspend, or ban accounts.
  • To send notifications you can control, such as new matches, messages, event reminders, and new specials at favorite places.
  • To choose sponsored cards, when turned on, using only our own information (such as your area and interests). Never in dating or chat.
  • To respond to support requests and to meet legal obligations.

6. What other members can see

Verified members can see your first name, last initial, age, photos, about me, interests, public clubs, hometown, and your village if you choose to show it. Dating details are shown only to other members who also have dating turned on. People you block cannot see your profile, messages, or activity, and you cannot see theirs. Unverified visitors can see only happy hours and venue pages, not members.

7. Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that run parts of the Service for us:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in, file storage, and server functions.
  • Vercel: website hosting.
  • Twilio: sending sign-in text messages.
  • Amazon Web Services (Amazon Rekognition): the live selfie check, face comparison, and photo safety checks.
  • Anthropic: scoring messages for scam risk.
  • Expo (with Apple and Google push services): delivering notifications.
  • Mapbox: maps.
  • Sentry: crash and error reports.
  • Resend: email codes for business owners who claim a venue.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of members or the public, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.

8. How long we keep information

  • Your account information, photos, and messages: until you delete your account.
  • Face reference image: until you delete your account.
  • Location verification readings: up to two years, then deleted automatically.
  • Check-ins: they disappear from the app after three hours and are deleted automatically soon after.
  • If an account is banned for breaking our rules, we keep the phone number and a face identifier (not a photo) so the same person cannot rejoin.

9. Deleting your account and your choices

  • Delete your account anytime in the app under Me, Delete account. This deletes your profile, photos, face reference image, and account. You can also email support@villagesocial.me to ask us to delete it.
  • Edit or remove profile details and photos at any time. Turn dating off, or hide your village.
  • Turn off notifications in the app or in your phone settings. Turn off location access in your phone settings.
  • Block or report anyone from their profile or a message.
  • You may ask for a copy of your information or ask us to correct it by emailing support@villagesocial.me. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, and we will honor them.

10. Security

We protect information with encryption in transit, database access rules that limit each member to what they are allowed to see, and private storage for photos and face data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a phone lock and never share your sign-in code.

11. Age requirement

The Service is only for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

12. Changes to this policy

If we make important changes, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app before the changes take effect.
